I had never heard the expression 'cutting a class' in British English in the UK...it must be an Americanism lol - FELIZ77, Aug 7, 2017
Oh, very frequently used in the U.S.! - houstonalle, Aug 7, 2017
Having read Dani's response I understand that it is referring to missing or skipping a class, or even skiving in order to go out and enjoy yourself! - FELIZ77, Aug 7, 2017
He escuchado " Irse de pinta" tambien en los programas mexicanos. - escritoraEEUU, Aug 7, 2017

This question was discussed in 2010 with link. cut classes

I would also like to add that to cut classes in Spain is hacer novillos (informal); ausentarse de clase. Hacer novillos has multiple meanings: to stay away; not turn up (familiar); (School) to play truant; play hooky (familiar); (Britain) skive off (familiar).

I have heard "Estar fugado"

"Hacerse la rata" would mean something completely different in my side of the world.

En Colombia decimos "volarse" o "escapar". Like "¿Te volaste de clases, verdad?" smile

Hacer novillos en mi parte del mundo.

Hacerse la rata, muy vigente en la Argentina, es lo que en España se llama "hacer novillos":

Wow, I just saw this on the web, interesting expression, never heard of it before.

Hacerse la rata means to miss class just because.

Play truant.
