There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Aunque no estoy exactamente seguro que conozca lo que es el sofrito, estoy absolutamente seguro que no sé cocinarlo.

Although I am not exactly familiar with what sofrito actually is, I am absolutely sure that I don't know how to make it.

¡Oh no! Mi sofrito se quemó mientras yo estaba cortando las verduras para el estofado.

Oh, no! My sautéed sauce base burned while I was chopping vegetables for my stew.

Para preparar una salsa, hay que empezar con un sofrito.

To prepare a sauce, you have to start with a sauteed sauce base.

Cuando tengo el tiempo, suelo preparar el softrito en grandes cantidades - o sea, suficiente para alrededor de diez platos, más or menos. Luego lo divido en trozos pequeños y los guardo en el congelador para uso posterior.

When I have the time, I usually prepare the sauce base in big quantities - I mean, enough for around 10 meals or so. I then divide it up into smaller portions and store them in the freezer for later use.

I like to open the windows when I'm cooking, especially, when I'm making a sautéed sauce base with garlic and onions. Me gusta abrir las ventanas cuando estoy cocinando, sobre todo, cuando estoy haciendo un sofrito con ajo y cebolla.

Nunca he tratado de cocinar con un sofrito. Normalmente uso caldo de pollo, cebollas, ajó y otras verduras,

I have never cooked with a sautéed sauce base. I usually use chicken broth, onions, garlic and other vegetables.

Me estoy juntando a nuestra amiga Echoline porque aunque cocino hace muchos años nunca en mi vida hice una sofrita para cualquier comida. No es popular en nuestro país.

I am joining our friend Echoline because although I have cooked for many years, never in my life I made a sautéed sauce for any food. It is not popular in our country.

A badly prepared sauce base can often be used as wall paper glue.

Un sofrito mal preparada a menudo se puede utilizar como pegamento de papel de pared.

Aunque no creo que nunca exactamente haya preparado un sofrito, he usado una técnica semejante para cocinar varios platos, más recientemente garbanzos al curry. Por supuesto usé especias diferentes a los que se usan en un sofrito clásico.

Although I don't think I have ever have exactly prepared a sofrito, I have used a similar technique to cook a variety of dishes, most recently curried garbanzos. Of course I used different spices than those that are used in a classic sofrito.
