There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

¡Soy un tacaño! El azafrán me resulta demasiado caro. A menos que esté preparando una comida especial, normalmente lo sustituyo con cúrcuma.

I'm a tight-arse! I find saffron too expensive. Unless I am preparing a special meal, I usually replace it with turmeric.

El azafrán se supone que es muy bueno para la salud, pero al parecer, tan poco como 12 gramos puede matarte.

Saffron is supposed to be very good for your health, but apparently, as little as 12 grams can kill you.

El azafrán es un gran cultivo comercial para el sur de España.

Saffron is a great cash crop for southern Spain.

It is by no means clear exactly when saffron was first cultivated in Italy. ... Its use during the Middle Ages with many other spices seems wilful, adding at great expense to a wide spectrum of flavours, and its ... Saffron was cultivated by the Arabs in Spain and in southern Italy, though it appears to have been a cash crop long ago ..

El azafrán da color amarillo dorado a la comida. Lo es la especia más cara del mundo.
Hace siglos en nuestro país lo cultivaban y utilizaban, pero ahora no es a la moda.

The saffron gives golden yellow color to the food. It is the most expensive spice in the world. Centuries ago in our country they cultivated and used it, but now it is not in demand.

Tristemente, el azafrán viene del estigma de la flor de azafrán.

Sadly, saffron comes from the stigma of the crocus flower.

Thanks for correction, Heidita. smile

This has to be the stupidest project I've ever done on SD. lol - Sassette, Jul 29, 2017
Why do you say that, amiga? - rac1, Jul 29, 2017
I had a feeling I would have to explain. Stigma carries another meaning besides the part of a flower. I tried to pick a common stigma. One ccmmon stigma is the notion that people who are mentally ill are dangerous. - Sassette, Jul 29, 2017
I don't think anyone on SD will get my attempted sense of humor even with my explanation. At least i'm trying to be creative. :) - Sassette, Jul 29, 2017
You are creative! =) - 00376109, Jul 29, 2017

El azafrán cuesta tanto como el oro en peso.

Saffron costs as much as gold by weight.
