I am going to take a shower

Question

Very simple question.

Spanish dict translated title's sentence like this: "Voy a tomar una ducha."

My question is? Can i translate it like this: "Voy a ducharme." ? Or is tomar necessary here?

I agree with Billygoat.

Voy a ducharme is the common way to say this in Spanish.

The other way is a literal way of saying what we say in English.

If you type "Voy a ducharme" into Google Translate, it comes back with:

I'm going to take a shower.

If you take what you think might be right in Spanish and put it into Google Translate and it makes perfect sense in English, this is a pretty good indicator that it is right, particularly for simple sentences like this.

Voy a tomar una ducha.
Voy a darme una ducha.
Me voy a dar una ducha.
Me voy a duchar.

All of the above are ok.

We use the one with "dar" very much.

We can say ducharse or bañarse. If we say bañarse it could mean shower or bathtub but if it's ducharse or darse una ducha it's only shower. - polenta1, Jul 26, 2017

I almost forgot one other way that is very common. It's using the verb "pegarse".

Me voy a pegar una ducha.
Voy a pegarme una ducha.
Me voy a pegar un baño.
Voy a pegarme un baño.

Voy a ducharme is fine. That is what I would say. The 'tomar' isn't necessary.
