Más de/Más que un tercer?
Should I say "más de un tercer" or "más que un tercer"?
I know that you would normally use "más de" when talking about numerical values, but I didn't know if a fraction constitutes a numerical value.
Thank you!

Yes, you use "más de" with quantities.
- más de un tercio (more than a third)
- más del 30 por ciento (more than 30 percent)
- más de un quinto (more than a fifth)
The word "tercer"(tercero) makes reference to a position, not to a fraction. In English means third, if you want to say 1/3, in Spanish we say "un tercio". You can express it in different ways:
- Más de un tercio de (la muestra en cuestión: alumnos, estudiantes, participantes, vecinos... de aquellos de quienes estés hablando).
- Más de una tercera parte de...
Tercer is an adjective, so you need a noun for it to modify, ie: Hay más de una tercera parte de la gente que no parece muy inteligente.
In your example "Más de +a quantity" is used to express that something exceeds a myriad the defined quantity. ( with myriad I mean an undeterminated quantity. In your example it could be 4. 5.........)
Subir más de un tercer piano por las escaleras no es bueno para la salud.
To carry more than a third of a piano up a flight of stairs is not good for your health corrected
Following with the structure you provide "más que +a quantity" it is used in negative expressions with the meaning of "solo/ only".
Ánimo. No te queda más que un tercer piano por subir/ ánimo solo te queda un tercer piano por subir.
mood. you only have a third piano for carry on.
I hope this help. Please correct my English.
If you are referring to a fractions it would be "un tercio"=1/3.
