cazuela ( cah-SWEH-lah )

(noun) casserole, stew

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

El gumbo es un tipo de cazuela que no tenemos en Nueva Zelanda, pero deseo que lo tengamos. Suerte para Amber smile

Gumbo is a type of stew that we don't have in New Zealand, but I wish we did. Lucky Amber smile

Another great picture of food. Fist steak, now this. - Sassette, Jul 22, 2017
Thanks Sassy. Only problem is they keep making me hungry. After Amber stops the food streak in La Palabra Del Día many of us may have to go on a diet :) - jellonz, Jul 22, 2017
Lol, It's not me....jejje You can still make Gumbo, if you can get the ingredients. :) Just imagine, a not hot spicy gumbo on a cold winter night...... Yum! - rac1, Jul 22, 2017
I've tried making it several times Amber, but I'm sure my attempts were a mile from the authentic article, and unfortunately we lack Cajun restaurants here. Still, I'll visit New Orleans one day and over indulge no doubt :) - jellonz, Jul 22, 2017
Mmmm....Looks Soooo good!!! - 00376109, Jul 22, 2017
I'll send the ingredients to you, Jellonz. Just don't throw away the shrimp because it's not pink.....lol - rac1, Jul 22, 2017
It is very good, Coffee. You would love it. :) - rac1, Jul 22, 2017
The shrimp would probably be pink by the time it arrived here Amber, or green. But if you did feel the urge to PM me a genuine Louisiana gumbo recipe I'll have a go sourcing the ingredients locally :) - jellonz, Jul 23, 2017
I can do that, but the shrimp would be fine because you have them packed in ice when they are sent, silly. lol - rac1, Jul 25, 2017

Parece que cada país del mundo tiene su propio tipo de cazuela. ¡Unas son mejores que otras!

It seems that every country in the world has it's own type of stew. Some are better than others!

In British English, it's sweet. - NKM1974, Jul 21, 2017
Couple of things here in English Nkm. If you want to use "from" you really need a "to" as well: "from French loaves to casseroles, fruit etc." Alternatives to "from / to" would be "like" or "including" or "consisting of." - jellonz, Jul 21, 2017
Also most of these foods need to be plural. "Fruit / fruits" could be either, but all the others should be plural unless you are saying there is only one of them (in which case they would need to be preceded by an indefinite article). - jellonz, Jul 21, 2017
I agree with Jellonz. - rac1, Jul 22, 2017

Si pongo suficientes ingredientes diferentes en mi cazuela quizás nadie va a notar que no sé cocinar.

If I put enough different ingredients in my casserole maybe no one will notice that I don't know how to cook.

La mejor cazuela se cocino lentamente durante cuatro o cinco horas .

The best casserole is cooked slowly for four or five hours.

The best stew is the French Cassoulet.

enter image description here No conozco la cazuela, porque en nuestro país no es una comida conocida, pero lei que la cazuela chilena es un guiso casero muy flexible - puedes usar cordero, pollo o cerdo en la receta, pero la versión clásica está hecha con carne de res.

I do not know the casserole, because in our country it is not a known food, but I read that Chilean cazuela is a very flexible homemade stew- you can use lamb, chicken or pork in the recipe, but the classic version is made with beef.

Cuando preparo cualquier tipo de sopa (bueno, excepto una sopa tailandesa, la que incluso yo no creo que deba ser espesa), mi esposa siempre me dice "creía que iba a elaborar una sopa no una cazuela", porque a mí me gusta comer mi comida no beberla a sorbos.

When I make whatever type of soup (okay except thai soup, which even I think should not be thick), my wife always says to me "I thought you were going to make a soup not a stew", because I like to eat my food not sip it.

Although it is normally inelegant to say "comer comida" I thought it might work here due to the point I am trying to make. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 22, 2017
I like it thick too. :) - rac1, Jul 22, 2017
Cajun soups lend themselves to being thick. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 22, 2017
I just thought of an idea for something I've never seen before: chocolate soup made thick for desert. - Sassette, Jul 22, 2017
I make a roast pumpkin soup once a week.So thick your spoon could stand up in it. Great winter food and if you boil up chicken bones for the stock you'll never catch a cold. - jellonz, Jul 23, 2017
Many of my soups start with boiling chicken bones. My white bean soup starts with boiling ham bones though. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 23, 2017

Cuando una madre está enferma, o acaba de volver en casa con un nuevo bebé, con frecuencia sus amigas y vecinas traen cazuelas de varias comidas para la familia.

In NZ we have a habit of doing this when somebody dies. Not meaning to sound at all morbid, but the loved ones often don't have the time or inclination to cook so a good hearty instant meal seems a good thing to give them. - jellonz, Jul 23, 2017
Absolutely! It's a very caring thing to do. :) - rac1, Jul 23, 2017
