Ponerle vs poner en

Ponerle vs poner en

What is the difference between these phrases? I've seen both used in similar situations.

Like for example in cooking for "I'm going to put pepper on the taco"

Couldn't be "voy a poner pimienta en el taco"

Or

"Le voy a poner pimienta al taco"

Are both interchangeable and mean the same thing or are they different?

Le voy a poner pimienta al taco,. or
Voy a ponerle pimienta al taco.
or
Voy a poner pimienta al taco.

are in my opinion almost interchangeable. I would prefer not to say "en el taco" but I think some people would use it and of course it would be understood.
