HI everybody smile

You might know already that I will be out of here for a week...not a big deal, I know, but anyway.

I am going to Lanzarote to dive...I am really looking forward to it, after the holiday I will open a thread where everybody can talk about their holiday, with corrections, of course. wink

Our very good friend Cafecita (also known as coffeelate wink ) will be looking into the daily threads. She is already doing that, please correct your posts according to her suggestions.

Espero veros pronto a todos y porfi: ¡¡echadme de menos!! raspberry

Thanks, guapa. :) - rac1, Jul 16, 2017
Heidita: I love the vosotros command on the end. We don't see many of them around here. We will miss you! - DilKen, Jul 16, 2017
@DilKen, Most users here who have tertiary level in Spanish are from Latin America. - NKM1974, Jul 16, 2017
I miss you already Ayyyyy!!!! O.O vuelve pronto Reinita - 00376109, Jul 16, 2017
a todos muchas gracias, cafecita os cuidará, un abrazo, - 006595c6, Jul 16, 2017
NKM, Thanks. I agree. Vosotros commands would typically only be heard in Spain. I don't see many Vos commands (2nd person singular) either. Maybe the places that use Vos know that most of us aren't familiar with it so they don't use it here? - DilKen, Jul 16, 2017
Voseo is common in Argentina, but extensively used in some areas in the Americas. - NKM1974, Jul 16, 2017
Yeah, what I was wondering is why we almost never see it here. Do they tend to use tú or usted with "outsiders" ? - DilKen, Jul 16, 2017
In the Americas they tú & usted(es), not vosotros though. - NKM1974, Jul 17, 2017
Yeah, got that. I was wondering whether voseo users use tú or usted on this forum because most of us aren't used to vos (2nd person singular) Not talking about vosotros (2nd person plural) - DilKen, Jul 17, 2017
Here's the wikipedia link for voseo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voseo - NKM1974, Jul 17, 2017

Yes there are Daniela2041 especially.:) - ian-hill, Jul 17, 2017
Daniela 2041 has been an invaluable help with corrections for a number of years now but has opened some incredible threads for learning , remember she was born in Spain and teaches Spanish so has impeccable credentials , - ray76, Jul 17, 2017
Yes, she is, but she is talking about doing them for the daily threads on a regular basis. As you know, Daniela has lots of things, other than SD she has to take care of and I'm sure her son takes a lot of her time and that's as it should be. We all - rac1, Jul 17, 2017
appreciate all she is able to do here very much. - rac1, Jul 17, 2017
A big thank you to Daniela! :) - rac1, Jul 17, 2017
Do I feel some kind of rivalry here? I'm pretty sure there is no need. Both are assets to the site and should be no need to compete. - 00fac92a, Jul 17, 2017
I don't compete (outside of Karate tournaments that is.) I usually only correct when I have a few moments and I want to help a friend. I do enough "correcting" in my classes. - Daniela2041, Jul 17, 2017
I know you do Dani and so does Guillermo. I don't think his comment was addressed to you. - rac1, Jul 17, 2017

Gracias a ti y a Coffeelate.

- polenta1, Jul 16, 2017

Hi there! Just to clarify I'm not here to take Heidita or Daniela' s place I don't have any "impeccable credentials" to show you I'm not a teacher and I've not opened any "incredible thread" to help you to improve your Spanish skills I wasn't born in Spain and probably I won't be able to give you detailed explanations about grammar , everything an actual teacher could do I deeply respect Heidita, Daniela and everyone in this forum I admire your efforts to learn and practice Spanish Please excuse my mistakes, my English is not very good Heidita just wants me to help to make some corrections I'll offer some suggestions Feel free to take them or not They are just suggestions, after all, maybe I don't have what's required to offer corrections I'm sure Daniela is going to be here as always She's going to give you all the experience and qualities you need in a teacher I understand, probably some of you aren't very happy because Heidita didn't mention her name here Believe me, I'm as surprised as you are So, if you need more details about this matter Please send a message to Heidita Thanks for reading Happy learning ladies and gentlemen smile

I will be quite frank here. As mods I would have expected a better choice of wording from Ian and Ray to your other post on this thread. You in no way at all implied anything other than demonstrating, as always, your willingness to help others. - billygoat, Jul 17, 2017
I appreciate your, and every other spanish speakers, help with my spanish. You all do it out of the goodness of your hearts and I am eternally grateful. - billygoat, Jul 17, 2017
I have learnt 100% of my spanish from native speakers on this and other forums. I have never attended a spanish class but can hold a conversation quite well these days. I am indebted to you guys. Pleeeease keep helping me xxx - billygoat, Jul 17, 2017
I am proud to say that when I am over in Spain chatting with the locals they can't believe I have never attended a formal spanish class. - billygoat, Jul 17, 2017
You guys are the best xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - billygoat, Jul 17, 2017
We are lucky to have you, Coffee. I respect and admire you and your willingness to help us. We all need that. In fact, I am thankful for all the help I can get from anyone, but especially the Spanish natives like you and others. Thank you from the bottom - rac1, Jul 17, 2017
of my heart. I do not believe for one second that Heidi nor you meant any disrespect to any of our other wonderful native speakers. Do not worry about the negativity. :) - rac1, Jul 17, 2017
You are very much wanted and needed here. Besos y abrazos. - rac1, Jul 17, 2017
I am not going to enter in to the main discussion, but your English is quite good and natural, and even if I read your post here specifically for errors (it is easy to read over minor errors) the only error is a lack of punctuation. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 18, 2017
And I apparently couldn't even write the above sentence without an error. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 18, 2017

Echoing Billy's comments, which were worthy of a post, thanks to all those who help with our Spanish. The problem when individual names start being used is invariably some names aren't, but I can guarantee that everyone who helps out on this site is greatly appreciated.

For me I see the helpers as a part of a team, each with his or her own skill set and virtues. Obviously as a teacher Dani can explain things in a unique way that her experience allows and this is invaluable.

Other native speakers such as Julian, Asto, Polenta, and many more, provide assistance from a different cultural and linguistic standpoint, which gives us excellent insights into, and from, other perspectives.

And those such as Bosque and Ken, who don't have the inherent strength of being native speakers, support their aid with detailed examples and references that allow us yet more learning opportunities.

Heidi and Coffee have strengthened the team by providing, amongst other things, corrections to our (frequent) misuses of Spanish in the daily games and challenges. This really is something to be celebrated.

Apologies to those not mentioned - I only used those names that sprung to mind as archetypal team members. The important thing is that everyone who is part of this helping team knows that your help is much appreciated. Muchas gracias smile

Fantastic post mate. Have 10 votes! :) - billygoat, Jul 18, 2017
Thanks Billy. You'd have to create 9 more usernames to do that. I think it would be frowned upon :) - jellonz, Jul 18, 2017
yes, but I have 9 kids! - billygoat, Jul 18, 2017
haha now I know it's not cool to explain your own jokes, but for Spanish speakers (who may not know) a kid is a baby goat in English :) - billygoat, Jul 18, 2017
I got it Billy :) I just looked up "cabrito" to see if the same dual meaning for baby goat / child existed. In Spain cabrito can also mean lousy swine, and in Latin America a customer of a brothel - so no :) - jellonz, Jul 18, 2017
Oh dear Jellonz, yes, that just about sums me up :( ;-) - billygoat, Jul 18, 2017
I just love that there is a single word in Spanish for "customer of a brothel." It's such a cumbersome thing to have to keep on saying in English :) - jellonz, Jul 18, 2017
