For some reason, it's giving me incorrect for all of my choices for second exercise. Only part of the question that is correct is 'Se'. Is there any other way of doing this? - Syeda6547, Jul 15, 2017
I take it you are entering these into an online system. Some of your answers here have a space before the period. Sometimes little things like that can cause a rejection by a computer. Also try without a periood. - DilKen, Jul 15, 2017

First Exercise Preférito perfecto compuesto es:

Yo he estudiado
tú has estudiado
él ha estudiado
nosotros hemos estudiado
ellos han estudiado

You conjugated with

Yo hube estudiado
tú hubiste estudiado etc.
This is not pretérito perfecto compuesto.

Neither is it pretérito (perfeco), which would be

yo estudié
tú estudiaste
él estudió
nosotros estudiamos
ellos estudiaron

The second exercise is correct in my opinion but I have a doubt with the last sentence.. Why not

Se exigió a todos los empleados. Just because it's "empleados"? Who demanded? We don't know. It could have been only one person..Let's see what other people have to say.

Polenta: With "se passive" the verb is conjugated according to the number of the passive subject. Todo los empleados. Who (singular or plural) demanded them to be committed is irrelevant. - DilKen, Jul 15, 2017
Syeda I took your "modelo""Se contrató a un ejecutivo....... " as a model. So I don't see any other possibility. - polenta1, Jul 15, 2017
Quise decir "todos los empleados" :) - DilKen, Jul 15, 2017

Dilken corrected me or let's say clarified my doubt and of course he knows Spanish grammar better than I do.

This reminds me of signs that appear in houses , apartments, cars etc saying: SE VENDE. This was the usual way : FOR SALE. Some decades ago I saw a car in the street with a sign and a telephone number. It said: " me venden". This would be translated as "They sell me" or " I'm being sold". I stopped walking and couldn't believe my eyes. It was the first time I saw an object "speaking"., "feeling", From then on, things have changed and I've seen this "me venden" many times though not as often as you can see "se vende".

This reminds me of an anecdote. A Spanish- speaking girl was traveling to Europe in a ship. She was dancing with a sailor and he said: "She is moving". He was speaking about the ship. ...................... For us that a ship is "ella" sounds fun.... LOL

Polenta: That's funny. How about? Ya no me aman :) They don't love me anymore :) - DilKen, Jul 15, 2017
I'm talking about a car for sale. I don't think one should use amar for things, but this is like a joke. Would you think it funny or weird if you saw that? - DilKen, Jul 15, 2017
One day all objects will be "people". lol - polenta1, Jul 15, 2017

Hi sye, your answers are correct, as already pointed out by Polenta, both of us are native speakers.

Sometimes it is something very silly, these computer based questions are stupid, you make a spelling mistake and the whole answer is wrong.

The first question however is completely wrong. The tense you have used is technically speaking "pretérito anterior", which is not even used anymore and you can only find it in very old books.

Heidi, to the best of my knowlwdge this almost obselete tense: pretérito anterior has been replaced by the Pluscuamperfecto de indicativo (pluperfect) eg: Habían hablado = They had spoken. Please correct me if I am mistaken :) - FELIZ77, Jul 15, 2017
that's right, feliz, preterito anterior is completely obsolete, good job :) - 006595c6, Jul 15, 2017

Hi Ken, I think Polenta will agree on this one: no way, that would not be funny...it sounds weird.

In any case, amar is hardly ever used in Spain, now that I think of it...I wouldn't find it odd to see a sign:

ya no me quieren...me quieres tú?

for example, jeje, that would really be funny.

Heidita: Thanks. I thought of using querer and I figured it would be "safe" I just wanted to check on amar and you told me what I wanted to know. Thanks again. - DilKen, Jul 15, 2017
For other members...here is the question of mine that Heidita is referring to. Polenta: That's funny. How about? Ya no me aman :) They don't love me anymore :) - DilKen, Jul 15, 2017

You might want to review haber to see where you went wrong. It is an easy mistake to make.

conjugation of haber

Ah, I confieso. I didn't read all the answers in this thread. But I understand how the system can say that your answer was wrong, even though it may have been correct. It has to do with speed.

I learned on my own not too long ago, that if you submit your answer before the system accepts it, it is marked wrong. Keep the pinkie off the ENTER key until you get a "green light"!

Speaking of selling things. I found this cartoon on the internet. It took me a few seconds to get the joke, but once I did, I love it. smile
