Mi pequeña del alma - what does it mean?

Question

My Peruvian girlfriend has started calling me Mi pequeña del alma. I did Google translate and found out that it means "My Little Soul". I also found out that this a famous song title by Isabel Pantoja. Now for native Spanish speakers, my question is - what does it really mean? Is it a special term of endearment in Spanish? Does it signify anything special? Thank you in advance!

When you say "girlfriend" in this case, do you mean a romantic relationship or just friendship? Because your Peruvian friend speaks to you as if you were a woman. She says "pequeña!". - polenta1, Jul 13, 2017

Mi pequeño del alma

Being a male, this word has a masculine ending.

anyway, she is saying: you are my soulmate

Literally: my little one of my soul

I would use soulmate here...that is, you are close to her soul.

¿Could it be, "pequeña joya de mi alma"? It has to be feminine. In any case, it is a term of endearment.
