Photobucket Ransom Note

Photobucket Ransom Note

Some of you may have noticed that many or all of your Photobucket images have been replaced by a ransom note. Photobucket is no longer hosting 3rd Party images and is asking users for $400/year to fix it. No, not "asking" - demanding.

Yeah, I've been using Photobucket for 11 years and now this. What to do, what to do?

Thanks, Ian! But what about personal photos or clip art? - Findy, Jul 10, 2017
You can upload your own pics to these sites and link them to SD Findy. - ian-hill, Jul 10, 2017

I actually opened an account on facebook only for that reason, to host my pictures.

I didn't realize you could link pictures from Facebook

And yes, you can, I have been doing this forever .

I have a question. Are the photos here on SD actually on SD or a they a link to to sites, such as photobucket, where the actual photo is stored? I've always wondered why one has to use a third party in order to have a photo appear on SD. I don't believe that photobucket, for example), should be obligated to provide a free service. I think they should offer their users' the ability to recover their photos at no cost, at least for a limited time. Some users will have to purchase larger hard drives or other storage devices. The old adage still rings true today: "Nothing is for free". I might add: "Everything is for fee".

No amigo they are not stored on SD. Only the "link" that is used to pull the picture from another site like photobucket. I don't use that site anymore. - ian-hill, Jul 10, 2017
Thank you so much. - DonBigoteDeLaLancha, Jul 10, 2017
De nada amigo. The reason they are not stored is that SD would have to increase its disk storage capacity at forever increasing cost. - ian-hill, Jul 10, 2017

I have had to give photobucket the flick ages ago , it became difficult to use

and they were wanting me to pay for extras all the time. I either use images

from google or for my own images I send them from my photo library to 'facebook"

then into SD , after which i delete them from facebook or not .

Hello!

I read this article on BBC.
Amazon_and_eBay_images_broken_by_Photobucket's_'ransom_demand'

My suggestion would be is to try and find another alternative uploading site.

Hope this helps.

Regards!
