impregnar ( eem-prehg-NAHR )

(verb) to soak; to pervade

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

The smell of coffee pervaded the air on the farm.

People didn´t bathe or wash their clothes as often as we do now. Plus, horses defacated in the street. And so on. - mstivers, Jul 8, 2017
Thanks Mstivers. :) - rac1, Jul 9, 2017

While awaiting an official response, just a comment on some of the uses I see in this thread. To me impregnar implies an intermingling of molecules, so to use it as soak, it is like a towel where the water molecules enter it, and make it wet. - bosquederoble, Jul 8, 2017
Not like putting a solid object in a liquid bath. But I could be wrong, so I will await our corrector. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 8, 2017
That is a picture perfect baby!! So, so cute! - rac1, Jul 8, 2017
Yep, we need to know about that, Bosque. - rac1, Jul 8, 2017
I agree with you Bosque In those phrases I would say 'remojar" instead of 'impregnar' - 00376109, Jul 8, 2017
También "sumergir" Like 'sumergir los pies en agua' - 00376109, Jul 8, 2017
Gracias, Coffeelate. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 8, 2017
But did 'he' change the nappy? - Mardle, Jul 8, 2017
I vote yes, that is if we are talking about Bosque. lol - rac1, Jul 9, 2017
nice bosque, thanks coffee, I can't always be here, you are a life saver :) - 006595c6, Jul 9, 2017
Gracias, Heidita. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 9, 2017
Thanks for he clarification, bosque. Mine is one of the offending sentences. I'd rewrite it, but then the votes would have been cast for something that was no longer there. What think ye? - AnnRon, Jul 10, 2017

Not to worry, your work is always great! I'm glad God is my source and not the government. :) - rac1, Jul 8, 2017
Thanks, Ambette.:) - Sassette, Jul 8, 2017
I wonder if the faith based community realizes that the greatest source of love for those in need are the programs that the gov't has to help us. God does not provide food, shelter, and health care directly.:) - Sassette, Jul 8, 2017
I don't know for sure, but I do know, God always helps me some kind of way, even when things look impossible. - rac1, Jul 9, 2017
The latest is less taxes on the rich and cut medicaid and help for the poor, sick and disabled. - rac1, Jul 9, 2017
Exactly, Ambette, and I don't get it. I just don't get it. It drives me nuts! I guess I will just have to put faith in God. We live in a Christian country. I got to believe Jesus showed lots of love and concern for the needy. - Sassette, Jul 9, 2017

del tobillo con sales de epsomita, no idea what that is :) - 006595c6, Jul 9, 2017
Heidita, I got "epsomita" for "Epsom salts" from the Collins English-Spanish dictionary. Is it wrong? ("Epsom salts" is a name for magnesium sulfate.) - AnnRon, Jul 9, 2017

I think "impregnated" in reference to raincoats is another way of saying waterproof or perhaps of referring to a specific kind of waterproofing. - AnnRon, Jul 10, 2017
