aguacate ( ah-gwah-KAH-the )

(noun) avocado

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

This avocado will be ripe by tomorrow.

I believe that guacamole was invented in order to use up old avacados.

Creo que el guacamole fue inventado para usar aguacates viejos.

Yo siempre había creído que "avocado" era una palabra española, pero ahora he aprendido que es una palabra inglesa derivada de la palabra española "aguacate". Al menos "guacamole" es una palabra española y e inglesa que es compartida smile

I always thought that "avocado" was a Spanish word, but now I've learnt it is an English word derived from the Spanish word "aguacate". At least "guacamole" is a shared Spanish and English word smile

What a coincidence! For breakfast, I have just had the left over indian food from last night, whereas my daughter had avocado salad. (and it's true)

Si padeces fallo renal, tienes que recordar que los aguacates tienen mucho potasio, y que si comiera demasiados la concentración podría aumentar a un nivel muy elevado en la sangre, lo que podría ser fatal.

If you suffer from renal failure, you have to remember that avocados have a lot of potassium, and that if you were to eat too many the concentration could rise to a very elevated level in the blood, which could be fatal.

El aguacate es un fruto rico en grasas y a pesar de que estas grasas sean muy sanas para mi no están sabrosas.

Avocado is a fruit rich in fats and although these fats are very healthy for me they are not tasty.

Cuando yo estaba creciendo , no se podría comprar un aguacate, de hecho nunca he oído de ellos. Actualmente se plantan grandes cantidades de aguacates en Australia y es casi un alimento básico.

When I was growing up, it wasn't possible to buy an avocado, in fact I had never heard of them. These days large quantities of avocados are grown in Australia and it is almost a staple food.

I wonder why they're so expensive in restaraunts? - rac1, Jul 7, 2017
We used to call them an "Avocado pear " . Amber restaurants can be expensive , but that was a political message put out to show how expensive houses are getting , but $15. for avocado on toast would not be average cost . - ray76, Jul 7, 2017
"son crecidos" is very odd. "En australia se plantan/cosechan grandes cantidades de aguacates" - 00fac92a, Jul 7, 2017
