Please correct our English

Hi everybody, thanks for being so appreciative for the Spanish corrections on this board.

enter image description here

There are many people to help out. apart from myself, there are coffeelate, polenta, quentin ,astotxua , just to mention a few.

However, everybody seems to think our English is just about perfect , raspberry

Not true, of course. I try not to make mistakes, after all I am a teacher, but there is not a single one of us who is not learning.

I only just saw this comment by astotxua on this thread...his English was not corrected, though.

please be kind and correct my English - astotxua

I have seen some people chime in...but please, think of us as learners , if we make mistakes, hit us with corrections please.

Thanks JT, you're on your toes. :) - rac1, Jul 3, 2017
I agree "desperately". Our mother tongue definitely interferes with the foreign language, in my case Enslish. - polenta1, Jul 3, 2017
Ecsept me, who be perfek. :-p - Gekkosan, Jul 3, 2017
Gracias Heidita por mencionarlo. Por favor amigos angloparlantes corregidnos cuando sea necesario, aunque corregirme a mí sé que puede llegar a ser agotador. ;) - 000a35ff, Jul 3, 2017

We will do that. Thank you for your Spanish corrections too, amiga. We all need them.

I do corrections on La Palabra Del Dia and within the forum as well. I want to let everyone here know that it doesn't matter whose post it is, you can do corrections on it. We're all here to learn, so don't worry about someone getting angry for being corrected by you. Even the mods correct each other. If someone is angry about being corrected then they should re-think why they are here.

Kudos to all that help with corrections here on the forum!! smile

Thank you Mardle. You have a good eye. :) - rac1, Jul 3, 2017
Thank you Heidi. I'll fix that. :) - rac1, Jul 3, 2017
I couldn't do strike through for one word. lol I'll have to learn how. - rac1, Jul 3, 2017
I don't know how to do strike thru or emojis and so much more - Mardle, Jul 3, 2017
As a trainee lawyer we were always used as proof readers. - Mardle, Jul 3, 2017
As a fully fledged drunken bum I am only useful if somebody wants to know how we really speak, rather than what the text books say ;) - billygoat, Jul 3, 2017
Guys.... I am useful honest lol. You can insert html tags into your text to do all sorts of things, The code for 'strikethrough' is . See my post for an example - I have applied the strikethrough to my 'haha' at the end :) - billygoat, Jul 3, 2017
grrrr the code will not display. Go to my post and click edit, then you will see the code around 'haha'! - billygoat, Jul 3, 2017
OK thanks - Mardle, Jul 3, 2017
Anyone not accepting of corrections should not be on a language learning site. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 3, 2017
Amber: good statement about the attitude of being corrected. Easiest strike though is < s > kill me < /s > (without the extra spaces. - DilKen, Jul 3, 2017
It is mate. They both work on this website. - billygoat, Jul 3, 2017
Right Billy. So does < del >I want to be deleted < /del > - DilKen, Jul 3, 2017
Billy you may have figured out that to get a code to display in a comment you have to use some extra spaces. We do the same thing if we want to put something short in all caps. L O L for example. If we don't the system often blocks it as shouting :) - DilKen, Jul 3, 2017
Thanks Ken - billygoat, Jul 3, 2017

Although I'm a native English speaker I have to admit that my written English is not the best. I will make corrections if something is obviously wrong, but I think some of the Spanish speakers on here have better formal written English skills than I do! lol

I'm a bit thick and thought school was for playing football and messing around with my mates, rather than learning. haha

Thanks, feliz, you are very kind and offer corrections frequently.

Yes, you are right, I didn't mean to say that nobody ever corrects us...that is simply not true.

I just meant that our English is not perfect and we ALL appreciate corrections.

thanks everybody in advance

Thank you Heidi, for reminding us to offer all the native Spanish-speakers corrections to their English! I do try to do this but often when I see mistakes by native hispanohablantes I notice that other native English-speaking people have already got there before me, like Jtdaniel, Mardle, Bosque, DilKen, etc...wink

I tend to regularly visit and participate in the Picture of the Day, occasionally participate in Word of the Day (Rac) and answer some of the requests in the Question and Answer section for help with translating English to Spanish / Spanish to English. I have offered corrections to Astoxtua's English on occasions and proof read work for lliones, another native Spanish speaker.

If correction opportunities are being missed it is possible that this is because many of us regulars like DilKen, Bosque JtDaniel and myself are drawn to answering similar type questions in the forum.

However, any native English speaker can easily offer corrections to basic English mistakes.

Great reminder Thank you Heidi smile
