Duolingo gave me this sentence to translate:

¡Qué idea tan más interesante!

My first reaction seems was that that did not sound like good Spanish to me, and if anyone had put it front of me I would have guessed that it was wrong.

La diferencia creo que radica en el nivel de interés:

1) ¡Qué interesante tema!

2) ¡Qué tema TAN interesante!

3) ¡Qué tema TAN MÁS interesante!

Tu primera traducción (¡Qué tema más interesante!) suena más a pregunta:

¿Qué tema más interesante que el del alcoholismo, en un país en donde el 98% de la población es alcohólica?, —por citar un ejemplo—).

Is this regional in acceptance, or is one side wrong.

(IE is it acceptable anywhere, acceptable only in certain places, or acceptable nowhere)

It sounds horrible to my ears... just like saying "más mejor". To me, it's wrong. I looked it up in the panhispánico de dudas though and I found something interesting.

tanto -ta. 1. Cuantificador indefinido que puede funcionar como adjetivo, como pronombre y como adverbio (...)

Como adverbio, es invariable y adopta la forma plena tanto cuando modifica a un verbo: «Uno de esos cofres de cemento que tanto odio» (Gánem Caminitos [Méx. 2001]); y la forma apocopada tan ante adjetivos y adverbios, con algunas excepciones (...)

1. Cuando tanto antecede a mayor, menor o más seguidos de un sustantivo, lo normal hoy es que tanto se comporte como un adjetivo, concordando en género y número con el sustantivo: «Se advierte tanta mayor dificultad al paso de los alimentos cuanto mayor es dicho estrechamiento» (Moreno Chequeo [Esp. 1982]); «A medida que ello ocurra, tanta más información tendrá que intercambiarse»

In the example, más is followed by a noun. I don't know of it can be followed by an adjective. I'll keep looking but I still think it's wrong and even if it's not, I would not use it.

In all the college textbooks it gives the example of "Qué + noun + más + adjective.
