In a show I was watching the woman said it to her son as he was making crucifixes out of wood. Does it mean "Let's see how nice..."?

It would sound more like:

A ver....¡¡qué bonitas!

Let me see....wow, how beautiful!

I think that in American English it would go something like "Look how pretty ----!"

Gélido, it just occurred to me that it might also be:

¿ a ver qué? bonitas.

So what's up, what is this, to see what...all depending on context.

bonitas: gorgeous girls, you two gorgeous ones...

Heidita, creo que no es el contexto al que refiere. Entiendo que la madre quiere ver las cruces que está haciendo el hijo, y le pregunta. Es una frase muy común, no creo que sea para darle las vueltas que le habéis dado jejeje. ;) - txustaboy, Jun 28, 2017

I think that the real translation in that situation would be:

Let me see how pretty are the crucifixies that you are doing.

All in one sentence and not asking.

This would be a literal translation of the phrase as written in the title. However, it is unlikely that a native Spanish speaker would say that. I believe Daniela's answer is most likely the correct interpretation. - Gekkosan, Jun 28, 2017
