vadear ( bah-deh-AHR )

(verb) to wade across, to ford

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Es un espectáculo muy interesante y colorido para ver este desfile de elefantes, cuando vadean el río y debido a su altitud la gente en su espalda no se mojará.

Keen insight Ambette and Ray. I never thought of the obvious step of sinking the vehicle into the water a bit. It still may look photoshopped but I made the improvement. Let's just say Jesus was driving the vehicle before. lol - Sassette, Jun 24, 2017
@Heidita. Hmmm...guys and cars. It gets scary lol @Nickelbackfan. Glad to hear it! For quite a number of years American car companies have done well. I have a Chevy and I love it. - Sassette, Jun 24, 2017

I prefer to cross the bridge than ford the river. Prefiero cruzar el puente que vadear el río.

Se dice que el pasto es más verde en el otro lado, pero a veces tienes que preguntarte si vale la pena vadear al otro lado.

It is said that the grass is greener on the other side, but sometimes you have to wonder if it is worth it to wade over to the other side.

Jeez Bosque. That nasty zebra's biting that poor croc in the eye! You have to watch out for zebras. - jellonz, Jun 24, 2017
I was reading about this today. They fed that zebra to the crocks. How cruel. - rac1, Jun 24, 2017
Ew. That makes me feel bad for making a joke now :( - jellonz, Jun 24, 2017
Zebras and Gnus in East Africa regularly have to ford the rivers and brave crocodiles to chase better pastures. The picture was one I randomly chose because it looked like the zebra was fighting back. If this was done by tourists, that is awful. :) - bosquederoble, Jun 24, 2017
I can't remember who did it, but I do remember reading it on the news. Don't worry about it, I didn't mean to come across as shaming anyone. lol - rac1, Jun 24, 2017

I don't know if this meaning of "Vadear" exactly fits (?) but the temptation to include Vader in this sentence was too great :) - jellonz, Jun 24, 2017
And he ended up dead....saving his son. Loved it. - rac1, Jun 24, 2017
not really jaider...vadear is only used in connection with water. - 006595c6, Jun 24, 2017
Thanks Heidita. There's a meaning in the dictionary that says it can be used as "overcome" but I couldn't find any real world examples so I had my doubts. - jellonz, Jun 24, 2017
