There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1: Voy a poner las sillas bajo una de esas palmeras.

I'm going to put the chairs under one of those palm trees.

2: Si no fuera por las palmeras, no habría nada de sombra en esta playa.

If it weren't for the palms, there wouldn't be any shade at all on this beach.

Me gustaría cultivar una palmera en el jardín, pero me preocupo que no crezcan bien en Alaska.

I'd like to grow a palm tree in the garden, but I'm afraid they don't grow well in Alaska.

Siempre me he preguntado cómo ponen esas luces de Navidad en esa palmera.

I always wondered how they got those Christmas lights on that palm tree.

Las palmeras en una terraza son muy bellas, pero tarde o temprano van a crecer de su lugar.

The palm trees on a terrace are very beautiful, but sooner or later they will grow out of their place.

You amaze me with how quickly you learn languages. I know you are well versed in more than one. :) - rac1, Jun 21, 2017
Outgrow is only one word & no dash or hyphen. - NKM1974, Jun 21, 2017
Also lose "The", it sounds more natural as well. ;-)! - Jraider, Jun 21, 2017

Extraño pero cierto, las palmeras crecen en Cornualles Inglaterra una especie llamada 'cordyline australis'.

Todo gracias a la corriente del golfo.

Strange but true, palm trees do grow in Cornwall England a species called 'cordyline australis'.

*All thanks to the Gulf Stream.

Las palmeras son muy raras en Cornualles, así que son un espectáculo exótico para nosotros. Palm trees are very rare in Cornwall, so they are an exotic sight for us.

No es fácil, pero sí es posible cultivar algunos tipos de palmera donde vivo- traté de cultivar una una vez, pero después de unos pocos años el intento acabó en fracaso- quizás porque la mantuve en una maceta en la terraza, lo que ofreció menos protección contra el frío.

It is not easy, but it it is indeed possible to grow some types of palm where I live- I tried to grow one once, but after a few years the effort ended in failure- perhaps because I tried to maintain it in a pot on the deck, which offered less protection against the cold.
