Hello Albertodict,

Welcome to our Spanishdict community forum smile

You asked

Porqué "I don't know" translates to "No lo sé"? instead of "Yo no sé"?

Albert, as a question, you should say por qué (two separate words with an accent on the é to distinguish it from porque (single word, without accent) meaning, 'because'

I don't know = No sé but I don't know it = No lo sé

I didn't know = No sabía

I hope this helps smile

Corrijan mi español si es necesario, por favor smile

"No lo sé" is more common if answering a specific question.

For example. ¿Cuál es la capital de Ecuador? -----No lo sé.

Yes, Dani , I can see that the use of 'lo' makes alot more sense in this kind of context where you can see what lo (it) refers to! :) - FELIZ77, Jun 20, 2017
