Welcome to SpanishDict, Jengeddie. I agree with Ray, your question is a little confusing. - rac1, Jun 8, 2017
A root verb in English is the infintive without the "to" - there is no equivalent in Spanish. - ian-hill, Jun 8, 2017

We usually refer to "tener" as an infinitive, not a root verb. I don't know what you mean by "VR."

Infinitives are often used after conjugated verbs:

  • Van a comer
  • Quiero hablar
  • Tratamos de dormir

They are also used as nouns:

  • Fumar es peligroso
  • No puedo vivir sin bailar

There are a few other uses as well. You can Google something like "Spanish infinitives when used" to find descriptions like this.
