I hope you have said this to people with whom you have a romantic relationship, this is how we use amar.

Te amo is correct.

Te amor doesn´t make sense. Amor is a noun, ie: Tengo mucho amor por ti.

Hello Roomy,

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum smile

You asked:

Te amo vs te amor, . I've said both to people and I just started to wonder what is the difference between the two so can someone help me?

Julian is right: Te amo (makes sense) = I love you.

The other sentence is not correct!

In Spain and many other Spanish speaking parts of the world, Spanish natives use the verb querer to mean to love.

They say: Te quiero (mucho) to friends and family, and I think even large pets such as dogs and cats to mean, I love you! It can also mean I like you. (not, I fancy you ...the verb gustar is used) Obviously the context will help the hearer know which is meant

The verb amar is normally used only to express love in the following limited situations:

1.Towards God (although the verb adorar can be used too)

2.For a husband/wife/ partner in an intimate, longterm (committed) relationship

3.In literature; eg, poetry

I hope this helps smile

Native/Fluent speakers: I am open to correction as always on matters of culture and practice as much as language! Please feel free to comment so that I can learn. Thank you! wink

"Amo" is the yo form of the verb "amar", "to love". Combined with the indirect pronoun "te", the phrase "te amo" means "I love (at) you". "Amor", though, is the noun form of "love". "Tengo amor por tí" means "I have love for you".
