There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Algunas personas viven su vida como un remolino. Yo no, a mí me gusta una vida tranquila.

Some people live their life like a whirlwind. Not me, I like a quiet life.

En la mitología griega hay un famoso remolino llamado "Charybdis" que Oddysius tuvo que negociar.

In Greek mythology there is a famous whirlpool called "Charybdis" which Oddysius had to negotiate.

A whirlpool is a body of swirling water produced by the meeting of opposing currents. The vast .... Charybdis in Greek mythology was later rationalized as a whirlpool, which sucked entire ships into its fold in the narrow coast of Sicily.

Very nice Porcu, perfect Spanish as far as I can tell :) In English I'm not familiar with calling these things eddies, at least not in the US. We would say pinwheels. - DilKen, May 16, 2017
In Britain, it's a toy windmill. - NKM1974, May 16, 2017

En español, una bañera con remolinos de agua no se llama un remolino, sino una bañera de hidromasaje.

In Spanish, a bathtub with swirls of water is not called a whirlpool but a hydromassage bath.

En Australia un remolino se llama un willy-willy, o polvo diablo.

In Australia a whirlwind is called a willy-willy or dust devil.

A dust devil is a strong, well-formed, and relatively long-lived whirlwind, ranging from small to half a meter wide and a few meters tall... The Australian English term "willy-willy" or "whirly-whirly" is thought to derive from Yindjibarndi or a neighbouring language. In Aboriginal myths.

Si puedes encontrar un bonito remolino en un arroyo donde el agua ralentiza, es un buen lugar para pescar.

If you can find a nice little eddy in a stream where the water slows down, it's a good place to fish.
