Is it "déme" or "deme"?

Is it "déme" or "deme"?

Which of these is correct: "déme el lápiz" or "deme el lápiz"? I've heard some people say that since the Ud. imperative form of "dar" is "dé" with an accent to differentiate it from "de" the preposition, "déme" also needs an accent. However, I've heard others say that since "deme" can't be confused with anything, it needs no accent. Which is correct?

deme

démelo

I came across an article on the net suggesting that this has been the case since 1999. I didn't read much beyond that. If this is true, you may find déme written, but it is certainly not necessary nowadays. Perhaps some of your friends learned before a rule change or from some old textbooks.

As I'm sure you know, with or without the accent in that position with a two syllable word that ends in a vowel, it would be pronounced the same with or without the accent.

Thanks to all of you guys! - donDipper, May 13, 2017
"Deme": Palabra llana terminada en vocal. Sin tilde. Dar, conjugado en imperativo, segunda persona del singular usted, seguido de un pronombre atono. Un saludo. - Raff75, May 13, 2017
