Hi Berry82!
Actually the phrase is
"Uno no se aleja, a uno lo alejan" (You don't get away yourself, but others push you away).
As one of my professors say: this phrase is more brilliant than truthful. By "brilliant" he means visually attractive and well sounding. It appears to comprise a profound philosophical truth, but it's not like that at all.
Maybe it refers to the specific situation where you are somehow rejected by others although you try hard to fit in, or something like that.
