"Park" (engranaje)

Question

Hablando de los automóviles, cortacéspedes, etc. ¿cómo se dice el estado de la caja de velocidades cuando no está en marcha? Son dos: "neutro" (supongo) que permite rodar el vehículo y XXX por "park" que no lo permite. ¿Cómo se dice?

I should have added that to my list. It's nice to here native speakers speak to what is used in their areas. Sometimes I even remember who uses what where, although when palta was brought up and I said that is the word for aguacate in Chile.... - bosquederoble, May 10, 2017

¿Puede ser "punto muerto"? Según mi marido es cuando el motor marcha pero el auto no está marchando, está como estacionado.Estacionado es como "parked" en inglés. También dice mi marido que "neutro" podría ser otro término.

Here are the two alternate pronunciations with English translations.

• La caja de cambios no está funcionamiento. The gearbox is not functioning.
• La caja de velocidades no está marcha. The gearbox is not running.

Cambios and funcionamiento are both masculine. Velocidades and marcha are both feminine.
