alba ( AHL-bah )

(noun) dawn, daybreak

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1: Subimos el monte para contemplar el alba.

We climbed the mountain to watch the dawn.

2: Vigilaremos la guarida de los ladrones hasta que llegue el alba.

We'll watch the thieves' lair until dawn comes.

Most birds are noisy at daybreak; in English we call it the dawn chorus.

La mayoría de las aves son ruidosas al amanecer; En inglés lo llamamos coro del alba.

Carter, I would say: puede estar = can be - sería is would be. Also, in Spanish you generally need something...such as "La" in this case before the subject of a sentence unless it is a proper name. La alba puede estar.... - DilKen, May 1, 2017

This fits in very nicely wth Nickelbackfan's entry if I'm right about what she meant. Again, I gave the address to listen to this song about faith under Nickelback's entry. :) - Sassette, May 1, 2017

Cuando era joven, a veces me quedé levantado hasta la alba, pero actualmente nunca podría hacer eso.

When I was young, sometimes I would stay up until dawn, but these days I could never do that.

This is not an entry. I don't deserve any votes for this as I am not using the word of the day. I'm just having some fun with today's assignment. smile

Jessica Alba es actriz americana y empresaria. La palabra del día de hoy está dedicado a ella.

Jessica Alba is an American actress and businesswoman. Today's word of the day is dedicated to her.

note: Jessica's father is of Mexican descent (including Spanish, Indigenous Mexican, and distant Sephardic Jewish, roots). Maybe that explains the name.!

Nice photo. Here's an improved revision, if you are interested. In English, "After the moon, the Morning Star is the brightest planet on the sky." In Spanish, "Después de la luna, el lucero del alba es el planeta más brillante en el cielo." - NKM1974, May 1, 2017
That would be Venus, right? - Jraider, May 1, 2017

The song is called "the hammer's coming down" from Nickelback. - Sassette, May 1, 2017
Correct my own Spanish I think it should be "al alba" not "a la alba" since the feminine noun is treated as a masculine noun. - Sassette, May 1, 2017

Mira, la salida del sol está para romper a través de la neblina.

Sí, ¡qué alba tan hermosa!

Me encanta la aurora, sobre todo en verano.

Sí, escucha las pajáros que se ponen a cantar

¡Qué afortunado que hayamos madrugado!

Look, the sun is about to break though the mist.

Yes, what a beautiful dawn!

I love the first light, especially in the summer.

Yes, listen to the birds breaking out into song.

How fortunate that we got up early!

No voy a poner mi lindo despertador para alba porque es a una hora tan temprana. Preferiría despertarme mucho más tarde en la mañana.

I am not going to set my alarm clock to go off at daybreak because it is so early. I would prefer to wake up much later in the morning.

Thanks for corrections, kenhuizenga. smile

Disfrutamos mucho contemplar el alba en Sarangkot, Pokhara hace algunos años. Mi amigo pidió su bolso porque estaba muy emocionado para sacar el video... ja ja ja

Después de la puesta del sol, a Vlad siempre le gustaba irse de juerga, pero siempre se aseguraba de regresar a casa antes del alba para descansarse en un lugar cómodo, bueno, haste hasta que ese día funesto cuando hubo un retraso.

After sunset, Vlad always liked to go out on a spree, but he would always make sure to return home before daybreak to rest in a comfortable place, well, until that fateful day when there was a delay.
