Is this the right word to use in Spanish?
Hi everyone! I'm in my second year of Spanish and my professor gave the class a quiz that included a question that said
"What is the word avocado in Spanish?" <-- There were 2 answer choices
(a) la palta
(b) el paltero
I chose la palta, but apparently, the answer was el paltero.. I've searched this up but haven't found anything on it. Any explanation?

I've always used "aguacate" If you look up "aguacate fotos" you'll get a bunch of fotos that look like this.

I also looked up "avocado" on the SD translator and found my word plus the others mentioned in the other post.
Link to Avocado
Palta is avocado in some Latin American countries (not only in South America). So, this is the name for the fruit.
Paltero is pertaining to palta, usually the person who grows or delivers paltas (avocados) or the tree. Paltero is definitely not the name for the fruit.
"Aguacate" is the other name for avocado.
I'm about as puzzled as you are. In some South American countries, an avocado is la palta. El paltero is a person who grows or distributes avocados. Or, as an adjective, paltero means "pertaining to avocados."
I'm just a learner of Spanish, and your professor presumably knows more than I do. Wait for others to chime in.
It depends on the country. In mine you say palta but in many others they say aguacate. I've never heard paltero. Ask your teacher
.I buy paltas in the street market or at the supermarket. quite often and that the way we call them.
