Hello, I'm still a beginner for the most part and today my friend used the word "Matutina". I was curious as to how common this word is, since I normally hear "mañana" to refer to the morning. Thanks!

Mañana means morning and it is a noun or sustantivo. LA MAÑANA. La mañana está hermosa. The morning is beautiful.

Mañana also means tomorrow, it's a time expression. Voy a ir mañana. I'm going to go tomorrow.

Yet another meaning could be THE FUTURE ( a noun) and here it's not LA mañana but it's masculine EL mañana. No conocemos el mañana. We don't know the future.

Matutino/a or its plural matutinos/as is an adjective meaning morning as in the morning hours.

Yo voy a la escuela al turno matutino. I go to school in the morning shift (?) El sol matutino me encanta. I love the morning sun. Este es un trabajo matutino. This is a morning job.

The opposite is VESPERTINO/A/S

Matutino/matutina is an adjective that applies to the hours of the morning, or to things that occur in the morning.

One cannot say, Buenos matutinos, nor Nos vemos por la matutina, nor Disfruté de la matutina. One can say Disfruté de mi café matutino (I enjoyed my morning coffee) but I'm sure that Disfruté de mi café de mañana is much, much, much more common.
