"Estoy Estupendo"

Question

I've heard this phrase as a response to "Como estas" other than "muy bien", etc, so today I used the phrase "Estoy estupendo" when my friend from Ecuador asked me how I was doing, and then he looked at me like I was crazy. Can someone help me out with what type of context you would use this phrase for? Thanks!

You could hear this in my country, mostly young people could say them. I guess they are not very " correct" and maybe they are not used everywhere. I personally use Bárbaro quite a lot . Almost always in a coloquial context.

This isn´t an adjective normally used for people. Even if it´s a regional usage, which I have never heard, to say it about yourself sounds very strange.

"Estoy sumamente bien" would sound more natural if you didn´t want to use "muy bien".

Now that you have a native answer I will explore this a bit more:

When you use estar plus adjective you say generally are applying that to how you are (state/condition since it is estar). When you use it with an adverb, or put de plus adjective, you get more how you are doing.

So you can say estoy triste, estoy contento, estoy aburrido, estoy enfermo because those are things you are when you are them.

If one says "estoy bueno" it means you are in good condition, which as you will see from my links if you explore them frequently means you think you are "hot/attractive"

So if you say estoy estupendo, maravilloso, etc. you are describing how you are, what shape you are in, not how you are doing.

Se puede decir "Estoy estupenda" y es perfectamente correcto decirlo, aunque yo personalmente no he oído esa frase muy a menudo. Más común sería oír:

Estoy estupendamente. Estoy de fábula. Estoy genial.

"Estoy estupenda" se puede interpretar también como que está diciendo que está muy bien físicamente (atractiva), matiz del que carecen las frases que he aportado.

It's not correct, sorry. Correct translation is "estoy bien"... "estoy bueno" is like saying I'm hot, talking of a great body.

Answering "Estoy estupendo" to that question in a serious manner, to me, is very arrogant... like saying, "I am the best thing since sliced bread was invented.".

It is incorrect to say "estoy estupendo", because you should use an adverb instead of an adjective.

Thus, the correct form would be "estoy estupendamente".

Estoy estupendamente = I'm fine.

Estoy estumpendo= I'm feeling good looking. Atractive.( it is something subjetive. It is just like I feel at this moment
