meeting children: formal or informal?

Hi all,

When an adult meets a child for the first time, is formal or informal (usted o tú) used? Not sure if it makes a difference, but this would be for the Latin American culture.

Thanks!

When meeting children for the first time, it is always proper to use the informal or "tú' form of address. For plurals, in Spain it's "vosotros/as" in Latin America, use "ustedes."
