ensenada ( ehn-seh-NAH-dah )

(noun) cove, inlet

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Esta ensenada bonita se llama "La ensenada de los cazadores de las focas". Está ubicada en la costa este de Wilson's Promontory Parque Nacional, la más sud parte de Victoria. En el pasado los cazadores matan muchas focas en el mar de esta región. Actualmente las focas son protegidas.

This beautiful cove is called Sealers' Cove . It is on the east coast of Wilson's Promontory National Park, the southernmost part of Victoria. In the past the sealers killed many seals in the sea in this region. These days seals are protected.

Hay nada mejor que navigar hacia una ensenada oculta. Navegando

There is nothing better than sailing into a hidden cove.

Is navegando OK here or should is be navegar? I thought the infinite is required. Maybe OK in Mexico because of the proximity to the US and the English usage of the gerund in a case like this. Thoughts? - DilKen, Mar 24, 2017
Thanks Ken I shall give it some thought mate. - ray76, Mar 25, 2017
@ Ken, On reflection in English I want to say" sailing to a hidden cove" I figure that the Spanish "navigar" puts the emphases on going to the cove , so I prefer it . Thanks mate. - ray76, Mar 25, 2017

El miércoles, pasé mi día en una pequeña ensenada en el lago, cogiendo un pez tras otro.

On Wednesday, I spent the day at a nice little cove on the lake, catching one fish after the other.

Cada año desde septiembre hasta marzo, los pescadores de Taiji, Japón arrean delfines hacia una ensenada que sellan con redes, y entonces matan a los delfines-en el pasado cortaban sus gargantas así que los delfines moría lentamente sangrando, pero ahora los pescadores tienen que clavar una estaca en sus bulbos raquídeos.

Each year from September to March, the fisherman of Taiji, Japan herd dolphins towards a cove that they seal with nets , and then kill the dolphins- in the past they cut their throats so that the dolphins died slowly by bleeding, but now the fisherman have to drive a stake into their brainstems.

Nice one Bosque. I don't think you need an "a" after matar. Isn't it así que? - DilKen, Mar 24, 2017
A fish is a fish, but dolphins? Sad :-(! - Jraider, Mar 24, 2017
I swear I wrote así que, I don't know how it got deleted. The personal "a" was an intentional choice to render an opinion by anthropomorphizing the dolphins. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 24, 2017
This is horrific! Why would anyone do this to a dolphin. They are smart animals. - rac1, Mar 24, 2017
This is 'obscene' ! Not your fault though mate. - ray76, Mar 25, 2017
Bosque - re the personal a - nifty idea:) - DilKen, Mar 25, 2017
I suppose even the choice of this as a subject renders an opinion-Dolphins have at least a proto language and aevidence of the basics of. A society. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 25, 2017
