Tonight we will drive to spain and we will be in el campello, we will check out the golf course and as well be at the famous juan beach. I wonder if there are sharks? I will be there for a week. I will also test out my spanish for the first time too, it will be fun.

Hola Tacosalsa

I hope you have a great holiday ! / ¡Espero que tengas vacaciones estupendas!

The word holiday in Spanish is always written in the plural vacaciones , in case you wondered why I had written my sentence in this way! wink

I have been on holiday to Spain many times and I have always enjoyed my time there...it is a beautiful country and the natives are generally very kind and friendly and willing to help you with your Spanish but you obviously have to be sensitive.as you would in any country Don't expect a shopkeeper to chat with you in their shop if they have customers waiting or ask a busy person rushing for directions.

As for sharks, most of the more dangerous species such as the White, Great White or Tiger sharks like the warm temperate waters of the Mediterranean, the east coast of America, Australia, Brazil (especially Recife) South Africa and New Zealand. Simply be sensible and watch out for the warning flags and avoid swimming at night or in murky (cloudy) waters ( or just after a big meal. Wait at least couple of hours before swimming to be safe!) and you should be fine! Many of the Spanish beaches, especially the tourist beaches have life guards.

Above all, have fun! ¡Buen viaje! / Have agood journey! wink

On the button Feliz , thanks . - ray76, Mar 17, 2017
You are welcome, Ray :) I did a study on sharks out of personal interest both at school and also many years later Fascinating creatures that I respect but would not trust! lol - FELIZ77, Mar 17, 2017
Yes I have swum with them I admire them but am very wary of them . We both loved Spain and would love to return . - ray76, Mar 17, 2017
You are right to be wary of them. I am sure that Heidita has also swum with them ;) - FELIZ77, Mar 17, 2017
especially considering her love of scuba diving ;) - FELIZ77, Mar 17, 2017
Yes she has mate , not sure which was the most wary, only kidding I admire her greatly , I wish that she was still here . - ray76, Mar 17, 2017
I used to scuba dive off New Guinea when very young , when we had to make our own gear . - ray76, Mar 17, 2017
Nice one feliz and yeah I will look out for the flags as well there for the sharks, like in the movie jaws, good they have guards too, it will be fun to test out the spanish, but I will start of by ordering food then ask for more as I get used to it. - Tacosalsa, Mar 17, 2017

You will be right near to where Ian and I stayed at Dénia last year

just a few miles away , that is probably the beach that you will use.

You are going to love it there as we both did.

Have a great time! I have found waiters and waitresses are very patient when you try to speak to them in Spanish. Indeed, they are appreciative of your effort.

If you have time, take a ferry out to one or two of the Belearic Islands for a slightly different flavor.

Thanks and that is good they are patient too as we dont speak as fast as they do. I will also take that ferry to have a tour of that island. - Tacosalsa, Mar 17, 2017
Yes what Wink has said is generally true in my experience of going to Southern and Northern Spain. However, you have to be careful in part of Cataluña I stayed in a small town called Pineda de Mar about 1 1/2 ride from Barcelona and one man at a small - FELIZ77, Mar 17, 2017
restaurant used a sharp tone of voice and aksed me to speak in English or Catalan which is their first laanguage. The nationalists would like to be separate from Spain! Some of them are fiercely nationalistic and can resent it when people speak Spanish - FELIZ77, Mar 17, 2017
So it is a good idea to always ask Spanish natives if you can practise your Spnish with them! If they smile and answer Claro que sí you know you are on safe ground but if they frown or pretend not to understand it would probably be better to ask someb - FELIZ77, Mar 17, 2017
ask somebody else ! I hope this helps :) - FELIZ77, Mar 17, 2017
