pradera ( prah-DEH-rah )

(noun) prairie, meadow

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

En Nueva Zelanda no decimos "prairie" o "meadow," por lo que creo diríamos "field" o "countryside" por "pradera."

In New Zealand we don't say "prairie" or "meadow," so I think we would say "field" or "countryside (campo)" for "pradera."enter image description here

Hace muchos años, había muchos animales grandes que vagaban por las praderas de América del Norte, pero muchas de las especies se extinguieron coincidentemente poco después de que apareció evidencia de la cultura clovis.

Es parece muy bien en la carta geográfica de Hungría que en la parte sur-este de la país hay una grande pradera.

It seems very well on the geographical chart of Hungary that in the south-east part of the country there is a large lowland.

suggest you replace "Hungary that in the" with "Hungary, in the" (replace "that" with a comma. - DilKen, Mar 15, 2017
By the way, with your original sentece structure the "that" was fine. But when you follow Amber's advice, the "that" no longer works...at all. - DilKen, Mar 15, 2017

No usamos la palabra "pradera o prado" el la tierra de O Z , sino "paddock" es una palabra más común.

We do not use the word "meadow or meadow" in the land of O Z, but "paddock" is a more common word.

"Paddock" is most common for farmland here too Ray, although for us a paddock, however big, will always be enclosed. - jellonz, Mar 15, 2017

Una pradera es un area de tierra en que no hay muchos árboles pero la tierra es cubierta con las hierbas de varios tipos. Es el lugar mejor para los animales de pastoreo.

A meadow is an area of land in which there are not many trees but the land is covered with grasses of various types. It is the best place for grazing animals.
