Hi,
My 15 year old friend died from cancer and I am going to his funeral today, his whole family speaks spanish.
how do you say i am so sorry for your loss, he was a great boy?

jtaniel's answer is ok, but does not express the intensity of the feeling. Therefore:
Lamento mucho su pérdida. Él era un gran muchacho.
There are other ways to send condolences:
Le acompaño en el sentimiento.
Mi muy sentido pésame.
Sintiéndolo mucho.
Etc.
