peña ( PEH-nyah )

noun ( monolith, crag, rock )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

We went to Bernal to climb the famous monolith.

2: Dicen que varias peñas grandes se desprendieron de la montaña a causa de las fuertes lluvias.

They're saying several large rocks fell away from the mountain because of the downpour.

Es muy interesante cuando hay un grupo de rocas y una peña sola está al lado, la imaginación está empezando.

It is very interesting when there is a group of rocks and a lonely rock is next, the imagination is starting.

I have something humorous to say about this picture, but I'll be a good girl and not say it because I don't think it would be a suitable comment for the site. - Sassette, Mar 9, 2017

Cuando era joven, me gustaba escalar peñas acerca cerca de donde vivía, pero en algún momento empecé a tener miedo a las alturas y hoy en día no sería capaz de hacer algunas de las cosas que hice hacía en aquel entonces.

When I was young, I used to like to scale rocky outcrops near where I lived, but at some point I began to be afraid of heights, and nowadays I would not be capable of doing some of the things that I did back then.

The picture of me that I put of me in the Navy (a scanned polaroid) really was me. I think that is the only one I remember that has me, I may have put one with my wife, but I don't remember for sure. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 9, 2017
cerca. no acerca . cosas que hacía better ,because the sense is that are things that you used to do ;) - 000a35ff, Mar 9, 2017
@astotxua Gracias, amigo. Making corrections not only benefits the person who wrote it but for all of us who view the sentences and are trying to improve our Spanish skills. - Sassette, Mar 9, 2017
Cerca vs. acerca is something stupid I do every once in a while, if I think about I know the correct- I actually thought about hacía vs. hice. Thanks astotxua- it is always nice to have someone look through it. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 9, 2017
