La vida en Mexico
Soy Irlandés viviendo en España. Leo muchos artículos sobre la violencia en Mexico y ¿quisiera saber si la situación es tan mala como parece o es solo la prensa focando sobre lo negativo?

Homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in a year:
Spain 0.7
Ireland 1.1
Mexico 15.7
Yes, this is a bad situation. But not as bad as
Honduras 84.6
Yes, the press sensationalizes certain things, but facts are facts. On the other hand, where you are and who you are in Mexico are important factors. If you're a member of a drug cartel in Juárez, the danger is real and constant. Also if you're a journalist who writes negatively about drug cartels in Nuevo Laredo. If you run a restaurant in Cozumel, there's really no danger at all.
That's just my viewpoint. I have no particular expertise.
Here are a few interesting numbers:
Chicago, Illinois is over 27 per 100,000. Dallas Texas is 49 per 100,000. Israel is 2.4 per 100,000.
Anywhere in Israel from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, is safer than many places in the U.S.
As Jtaniel said, in Mexico it all depends where you live. I go to Mexico every so often to visit friends and relatives, and never have a problem.
I noticed that my former homeland, Spain, had the lowest rate of all! ¡Viva España!
