noun ( mountain range, mountain chain )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Recientemente, leí un libro que explicaba cómo las truchas era capaz de cruzar una gran cordillera llamada Las Rocosas.

Recently, I read a book that explained how trout were able to cross a great mountain range named The Rockies.

El río Columbia ha tallado un paso por la cordillera de las Cascadas, y la garganta es muy magnífico, pero hemos aprendido a no tratar de atravesarla cuando hace mal tiempo.

The Columbia has carved a path through the Cascade range, and the gorge is very gorgeous, but we have learned not to try to go through it when the weather is bad.

I am not sure. The River itself ranges from 200 down i think, but the highway goes up and down. Bad continental weather channels through the gorge though. - bosquederoble, Mar 6, 2017
Yes, that could prove to be dangerous. - rac1, Mar 6, 2017
I'm pretty used to winter driving, but I wouldn't want to try that. Looks treacherous! - AnnRon, Mar 7, 2017

The man had decided to scale the vast mountain range and hoped he would reach his cabin before sun down, for this was when the wolves and bears roamed the woods.

El hombre había decidido escalar la inmensa cordillera y esperaba llegar a su cabaña antes que el sol cayera, porque era cuando los lobos y osos merodeaban por el bosque

Me gustan mucho las cordilleras, pero prefiero su vista si ellos hacen un circulo alrededor un lago bonito.

I like very much the mountain ranges, but I prefer their view if they make a circle around a nice lake.

The majestic snow-capped mountain range towered over the pristine river that wound its way through large rock columns and small Swiss towns that littered the valley floor as far as the eye could see.

Los majestuosos cordilleras sobre el río prístino que hiere su manera a través de columnas de roca grandes y pequeñas ciudades suizas que cubrían el fondo del valle hasta donde el ojo podían ver.

Nuestro amigo Ray ha explicado sobre la cordillera en Australia que se llama el Great Divide. Estas montañas capturan la lluvia llevado por el viento del este, y debido a eso la zona interior es más árido que la costa.

Our friend Ray has explained about the mountain range in Australia called the Great Divide. These mountains capture the rain carried by the wind from the east, and because of this the interior area is more arid than the coast.
