Am I correct when I deduce that the word guedo is pronounced whetto? The same goes for gueda and whetta. I am totally a white girl from Texas with no Spanish training and I would have thought guedo was pronounced gweedo. Lol no offense intended. Just an honest question.

The word is "güero."It is often spelled "hüero." Sometimes Mexicans don't pronounce the initial "g." Just like with "agua" it sounds like "awa." What sound like a "d" to you is actually the way Spanish speakers pronounce the single "r"

It does refer to a light skinned light haired person. Among Mexicans there are many "gueros." And of course most light-skinned Americans would fit that description.

This guy is a Mexican "güero."
