Indefinido o Imperfecto - necesito ayuda
I am concerned whether to use pretérito indefinido or pretérito imperfecto in a certain context which I will post here, down below:
Take notice that I am a beginner, so please don't judge me for inevitable mistakes, thank you! ![]()
"Cuando tenía sólo un año fui a Gran Canaria con mis padres y mis abuelos. Cuando llegamos a el aeropuerto yo y mi abuelo comenzamos/comenzábamos argumentar si me tenía/tuve que poner/ponía/puse un sombrero o no."
Should "comenzar" "tener" be in indefinido or imperfecto? And do I need to conjugate "poner" or should I leave it in present tense?
I would be so grateful if you people who know these grammatical rules properly could help me out. Thanks in advance!

A plus el= al

You began, sounds ended, so I pick preterit
Tenía- no end really, whether I was having to, I picked imperfect. (I might actually have said si iba a tener que ponerme, but I think tenía works.)
Tener que always has an infinitive.
I probably would have used discutir over argumentar. It sounds more appropriate to me, but that may be just me.
I am learner and preterit vs. imperfect is still a bit difficult for me so await other comments.
Do you want corrections to your English (inevitable rather than eventual, and people who know).
