Using two verbs in a sentence?

Using two verbs in a sentence?

Hi all,

I'm getting a little confused with the use of two conjugated verbs in one sentence.

My professor said that you're supposed to conjugate the first verb and keep the infinitive for the second verb. My question is, how does this affect verbs that are not side by side?

For example, I want to say...

I ate a lot of food for Christmas celebration. "Yo comí la comida mucha para celebrar navidad." (Not sure if this even sounds right).

Would I have to conjugate celebrar as well, or am I thinking of this wrong?

Thanks in advance!

After "para" the verb should be in the infinitive.

You do have one mistake. Your sentence should start with "Comí mucha comida." which means "I ate a lot of food"

Better yet, leave the "food" out of the sentence. Instead "comí mucho para celebrar la Navidad.

So then, could I say "Fui la casa de mi prima porque ella invitar mi familia" ? I just want to make sure I am using the rules right. Thank you :) - elmw, Feb 9, 2017
Not, really, the word "porque" requires a conjugated verb. - Daniela2041, Feb 9, 2017
Fui a la casa de mi prima porque ella invitó a mi familia. - Daniela2041, Feb 9, 2017

There is no single rule for all occasions. Your first sentence uses infinitve as the second verb because of the the word para, but in this sentence there are two distinct, complete phrases which could be said separately, so you have to say in this case: Fui a la casa de mi prima porque ella invitó a mi famlia.
