Why is the 3rd plural form of mirar used in the sentence above?

My interpretation:
"Lo miran como a un santo."
They look at him like a saint. (look at him=see him, view him, think of him)(as if he were a saint)
This is the impersonal “they”, that is used in both languages, that when my wife asks me “who are they?” I always answer- them, the others.
