The stress does not change by adding me. There is no written accent needed.

Since the word ayudar ends in r and carries no accent, the stress is on "-dar".

Since the word ayudarme ends in e and carries no accent, the stress will be on the penultimate syllable, which is still "-dar-"

You do not write an accent, unless the stress breaks these rules:

  1. Words that end in a vowel, an -n, or an -s will be stressed on the second to last (penultimate) syllable and will not have a tilde.

  2. Words that end in a consonant other than -n or -s will be stressed on the last syllable and will not have a tilde.

AYUDAR a-yu-DAR aguda ayudar (verb.)

Well the word does carry its accent, the thing is it does not carry its accent mark. :) - Oshnaj, Feb 6, 2017
Sorry I used accent as short for accent mark. :) - bosquederoble, Feb 6, 2017
I think I did clearly state there was a stress in saying that the stress fell on dar, even though it was not marked. :) - bosquederoble, Feb 6, 2017

Welcome to the forum I don't know how much Spanish you know, but to be understood it is important to stress in the correct place.

Eg hablo with no tilde, stressed on the first syllable means I speak but habló, with a tilde on the o and stress there means he spoke.

Here is a good infographic

The blog has lots of useful information:

The author is a Spanish native who teaches in Italy. The blog is in Spanish, so if you are very new to learning it may be hard work.

Incidentally imperatives followed by pronouns often have a tilde so you may be considering ayúdame [tú form] help me which has a tilde.

NB Bosque always gives well thought out answers. This is just an addition.
