Objeto indirecto y directo
Jane

La is a direct object
Le is an indirect object
With tocar, who or what you touch is the direct object- you touch something.
With hablar who you speak to is the indirect object (what you are saying is the direct, implicitly usually but not always- I speak the truth to you).
We do the same in English (there is not always a one to one direct vs. indirect between Spanish and English but in this case it works)
We touch someone but talk to them.

As if I were seeing my mother with total clarity on a screen without being able to touch her or speak to her.
Bosquederoble, thank you so much for the explanation. I understand perfectly now for other verbs such as preguntar and decir.
