How to combine words after learning vocabulary?

How to combine words after learning vocabulary?

Hello. I've been learning spanish since last month and have done a little bit of progress. Now, I'm learning vocabulary and statements but got curious of one thing.

How do I start connecting the words? El, ella, ser, ir, a, su ect. For example "I had to go for work" I would directly use the word "trabjo" instead of "trabajar" as an example.

How do I distinguish when to use different tenses or do I have to learn more vocabulary first?

I searched, but didn't find a similar thread, excuse me in that case.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum and to learning Spanish. You are right in that it helps to know some vocabulary to start writing sentences.

The sentence you are starting with is not a starter sentence.

"I had to go for work" this is a little ambiguous to me- if I interpret it as I had to go in order to work- tuve que ir para trabajar.

I would suggest starting with simple present tense like:

I go to work- voy al trabajo.

You need some resources to help you. And especially ones with practice sentences with answers.

I think Study Spanish has a nice structured approach for beginners with each lesson building on the prior, just go through all the lessons and do the tests- the basic is free (you get more if you pay but when I started I just did the free ones):

If you like video lessons we have them:

Also great grammar resources:

There are practice quizzes with most of these grammar topics.

I found these two books incredibly helpful in my early learning- they are workbooks full of practice exercises with short simple sentences- I think I got both of them for about $30 well worth it:
