Que tengas un buen dia.
I'm trying to understand the phrase meaning. I know I'm not supposed to try to find a literal translation, and I understand that I'm not ordering someone to have a good day, but rather wishing it upon them. However I'm just curious what the phrase really means...
by saying "que tengas un buen dia", it seems like I'm literally saying "that you have a good day." I guess what I'm asking is, where is the "I hope/wish" part of that phrase?--Thanks!
Note: Before someone recommends that I take the Fluencia lessons, I already am...And I'm taking private lessons via Skype. Both are really great, however I do a lot of reading and I have questions that are further ahead of my current level in both the lessons and Fluencia.

"Que tengas un buen día " is a slightly shortened way of saying "Espero que tengas un buen día." Which means "I hope that you have a good day." The subjunctive form "tengas" normally follows expressions like "Espero que" So that's where the hope is, in the unstated verb "espero."
