There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

En la sociedad estadounidense poder comprar una casa propia puede ser un importante paso para confiadamente avanzar en la vida- por ejemplo una de mi hijas no quiere tener un hijo hasta que pueda comprar una.

In American society being able to buy a house of one's own can be an important step for confidently progressing in life- for example one of my daughters does not want to have a child until she is able to buy one.

A child or a house? lol - rac1, Jan 22, 2017
It is interesting- that is only unclear in the English. A house in which to raise her child of course. :D - bosquederoble, Jan 22, 2017
I'm going take a big guess here: I think it's "comprarla" instead of "comprar una." I only say that because when referring to "one" I don't ever recall seeing un or una used in my Spanish readings. - Sassette, Jan 23, 2017
Hmm, I will keep what I wrote there. :) - bosquederoble, Jan 23, 2017
I think that's a good move after looking into it. I'm am confused, though. Looks like we may both be right but without any native speaker giving us any input anymore there's no opportunity to clear up my confusion. :( - Sassette, Jan 23, 2017
Seems to me you could use either, depending on how specific or nonspecific you want to be. But I could be wrong. - bosquederoble, Jan 23, 2017
