I am having a lot of trouble with writing Bible citations in Spanish.

  1. Should the reference for a quote from the Bible be placed in parenthesis, for example: (Deuteronomio 6:4), or after a dash, example: - Deuteronomio 6:4?
  2. Should the name of the book from the Bible, in this case Deuteronomio, be italicized?
  3. Does the citation come before or after the Bible quote?
  4. If the citation comes after the Bible quote, should the citation be followed by a period?
  5. Is the name of the Bible publisher placed in italics, for example: Nueva Biblia Latinoamericana de Hoy.

Thank you for your time and attention in this regard.

(1) The parenthesis are the usual way.

(2) Italicization is not necessary.

(3) The citation usually comes afterward, but I have seen it come before, usually in a statement like, "Dice el apóstol Pablo en Efesios 2:8, que-----------"

(4) Most writers that I know of do not use the period.

(5) I had to look on the first page of acknowledgements in one of my theological books to find this. Yes, italics are used.
