"Dame" by Domingo Siete

"Dame" by Domingo Siete

I watch Pati's Mexican Table on PBS. Her theme song is "Dame" by Domingo Siete. Hard as I try, it sounds to me as if they're not singing dame but rather lame. Is there a dialect / way of speaking Spanish where the d sounds almost like an l?

When "D" is between vowels, it get the sound of English "th" as in Although.

It is possible that this singer just has an extra soft "th", which when sung might sound a little like an "l." When people sing, sometimes their "style" overcomes the way that words should be pronounced. There are some singers I can't understand at all. Some are Spanish speakers and some are English speakers.

Regarding singers in English: think "Louie Louie". :) - DonBigoteDeLaLancha, Jan 15, 2017
