Me Dio que Pensar

Hi guys!

The expression "Me dio que pensar" means it makes me think. Correct?

I wanted to know whether this expression is commonly used or not, and if there is another expression with the same meaning

There is another expression very similar: Me dio por pensar.

I have never heard this used with que, so it is probably a regional usage.

“El hecho de que ella no lo mencionó me hacía pensar que ocultaba la verdadera razón.” "The fact that she didn't mention it made me think that she was hiding the real reason."

I believe this to be an alternate way to say "to make one think (about something)". It's pretty straight forward.

I think the closest English expression would be. "It gave me food for thought."
