Recetar or Rejetar?? (Spain Spanish)
Hi guys!!
Just wondering why the word "recetar" which means "to prescribe a medicine" is pronounced (Rejetar) in Spanish of Spain. In our translating machine, it's pronounced as expected; (Resetar) but the pronounciation is from Spanish of America Latina.
I Checked many websites that has Spain pronunciation and I'm sure I heared them say; Rejetar, instead of Recetar.
Why is it pronounced this way in Spain? is there a rule to this or an explaination, and is it correct to pronounce the "c" letter here as "?" and say [Re(th)etar]?

This practice of using the "jota" sound for a "s" sound is found in many places including Mexico and the US state of New Mexico. I have even heard them say "caja" for "casa."
In most of Southern Spain, the "ceceo" is not practiced. (I don't know how to make the Greek letter "theta" on my computer.) They pronounce most of their "c's" (before "e" and "i") as "s." And not as "th" like they do further north. However this sometimes gets transformed into the "jota."
I've heard Mexicans and New Mexicans use "nojotro' " for nosotros, using the "j" sound for the middle "s" and dropping the final "s" completely. This is also a characteristic of the Andalucía region. There are many, many such variations from the norm that you will hear around the Spanish speaking world. There is no rule for this, it's just some evolutionary process in the works.
The proper pronunciation (Latin American) is "resetar" In Middle and Northern Spain it would be "rethetar"
